Trump withdraws protection from his former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the special envoy for Iran

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has withdrawn the protection granted to his former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and the former special envoy for Iran during his previous term, Brian Hook, who face threats from the Asian country especially after the tycoon ordered the drone attack that killed the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani at the beginning of 2020 in Iraq.

The American president has justified this measure because “there are risks in everything.” “Do you want to have a large team of people protecting people for the rest of their lives?” he questioned this Thursday when asked by journalists.

Sources cited by the New York Times and CNN previously confirmed that Trump had decided to terminate the security teams assigned to protect Pompeo and Hook, despite warnings from the previous administration about the threats they face due to the “hardline policy” that both adopted during the Republican’s first term.

This Wednesday, the new tenant of the White House withdrew protection from his former National Security Advisor John Bolton, who in 2022 was the victim of an assassination attempt by an Iranian citizen and a member of the Revolutionary Guard, “probably in retaliation” for the assassination of the aforementioned general in Iraq, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
