Trump confuses Spain with a member of the BRICS and promises to impose 100% tariffs

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has confused Spain this Monday with a member of the BRICS – a multilateral organization that groups various emerging economies and that has been established as an alternative international space to the G7 – and has promised to impose 100% tariffs on said group.

In the Oval Office, when asked about the contribution of less than five percent of several NATO countries to the Atlantic Alliance, including the Spanish case, he has assured that Spain is part of the BRICS.

“I think that Spain is far below. And, nevertheless, they are part of the BRICS. (…) And, if the BRICS want to do that, fine, but we are going to impose at least a 100% tariff on the businesses they do,” he declared.

The BRICS acronym comes from its founding countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, although it currently consists of eleven full members, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Iran and Indonesia. It also has several partner countries.
