International leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have congratulated the new US president, Donald Trump, on Monday, who was sworn in at a ceremony held at the Capitol in the capital, Washington.
Netanyahu, a key ally of Trump, has applauded the return to the White House of a Trump who negotiated the “historic” Abraham Accords in which Israel signed peace with four Arab countries and has assured that he hopes that, under his mandate, “the defeat of the terrorist axis of Iran” will be completed, giving way to a “new era of peace and prosperity” in the Middle East.
“You withdrew from the dangerous nuclear agreement with Iran. You recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. You moved the American Embassy to Jerusalem and recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights,” Netanyahu recalled in a video.
“On behalf of the people of Israel, I also want to thank you for your efforts to help free the Israeli hostages. I look forward to working with you to return the remaining hostages, destroy Hamas’ military capabilities, end its political rule in Gaza, and ensure that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel,” he said.
For his part, the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, has congratulated Trump on his inauguration and has expressed in a statement his desire to work “to achieve peace” during his mandate” through “the two-state solution.”
Another of those who has spoken out has been the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, who has assured that today “is a day of change” that brings “hope” to put an end to numerous problems. In addition, he has stressed that cooperation with the United States will be “active and mutually beneficial.”
“President Trump is always firm, and the policy of peace through strength that he has announced provides an opportunity to strengthen American leadership and achieve a fair and lasting peace, which is the highest priority,” he stressed.
EUROPE HIGHLIGHTS TRANSATLANTIC TIES
The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has celebrated the relationship of “collaboration, cooperation and partnership” between both nations at a time when the United Kingdom and the United States have defended “the world from tyranny” and have worked for “mutual security and prosperity.”
“The United Kingdom and the United States will work together to ensure the success of our two countries and help people on both sides of the Atlantic. Since our first meeting in September, the president and I have talked about the need to deepen and invest in the transatlantic relationship,” he said in a video.
The British Prime Minister has assured that this “deep friendship” will continue under Trump’s mandate due to the “historical ties” and the “unshakable foundations” of both nations. “The special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States will continue to flourish for many more years,” he added.
On the other hand, the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has expressed to Trump her best wishes for this second term and has shown her confidence that this period will serve to further strengthen the already good relations between Rome and Washington and in the face of “global challenges.”
“Italy will always be committed to the consolidation of dialogue between the United States and Europe, as an essential pillar for the stability and growth of our communities,” the Italian Prime Minister has stated in her official profile on social networks.
The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has stressed in a message on social networks that the United States is a “very close ally.” “The objective of our policy is always a good transatlantic relationship,” he concluded.
Germany is one of the countries most criticised by Trump for its refusal to increase military spending in accordance with the agreement within NATO and precisely the secretary general of the international organisation, Mark Rutte, has pointed out that he hopes that the arrival of the new US president will “turbocharge” investment in defence.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson congratulated Trump on taking the oath of office as president and said he hopes to “closely cooperate” with the United States. Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris has stressed that he will cooperate with the Trump Administration, as the new tenant of the White House “has invested a lot” in the Irish territory thanks to “his contacts” with the golf club he has in Doonbeg.
“The world faces many challenges, including conflict, climate change, threats to democracy and the security of ensuring economic growth and stability. American leadership will be essential if we want to face these challenges together and succeed,” he said in a statement.
Also congratulating Trump on social media, among other European leaders, were the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander de Croo; the Polish Premier, Donald Tusk; the Prime Minister of Estonia, Kristen Michal; and the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic.
CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE AMERICAN CONTINENT
From South America, the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has joined the messages of congratulations to Trump and has referred to the “strong ties” between both countries in the commercial, scientific, educational and cultural spheres. Thus, he has opted to “continue advancing in these and other associations” and has wished the new American leader a “successful mandate.”
The outgoing Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau –who has been at odds with Trump over his intention to impose tariffs and for calling Canada the “51st state”– has highlighted in a brief message that “Canada and the United States have the most successful economic partnership in the world.”
