Biden issues new presidential pardons, extending record as president with most beneficiaries

US President Joe Biden on Sunday issued a new batch of presidential pardons that consolidate his record as president with the most amnesties and commutations of sentences.

The White House statement includes a presidential pardon for Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Don Scott, convicted of a non-violent drug offense in 1994, or posthumously for black nationalist Marcus Garvey, convicted of mail fraud in the 1920s and a precursor to civil rights activists like Malcolm X.

It also includes advocates for migrant rights like Ravi Ragbir, gun violence prevention advocates like Darryl Chambers, or prison system reform advocates like Kemba Smith Pradia.

“As president, I have used the pardon power to make good on that promise with more individual pardons and commutations than any other president in American history,” Biden said. “The recipients have made important contributions to the betterment of their communities,” he argued.
