The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has urged this Sunday not to “forget” or “rewrite” the events that took place on January 6, 2021, when supporters of the then outgoing president, Donald Trump, stormed the Capitol, where the victory of the Democrat was being certified.
“I think it should not be rewritten, I do not think it should be forgotten (…) If you look, I have reached out to make sure that the transition is smooth, we have to return to a basic and normal transfer of power. I do not think that we should act as if it had not happened,” he declared.
In this sense, Biden has stressed that “what (Trump) did was a real threat to democracy.” “I am hopeful that we have overcome it,” he told reporters at the White House, on the eve of the certification of Trump’s victory.
“There is no problem with us, I think there is an internal problem with them. We have put ourselves at their disposal,” added the US head of state, referring to the current process for the transfer of power between the two administrations.
