Beijing accuses Washington of “exaggerating” the “Chinese threat” and asks it to stop “inventing false narratives”

The Chinese government has criticized this Saturday that the United States authorities, “addicted to war”, are exaggerating the “supposed military threat” that the Asian country represents, while demanding that it rectify the statements made in its latest defense reports and that they “stop inventing false narratives.”

“For more than 20 years, the United States has been publishing misleading and hypocritical reports year after year, only looking for excuses for the development of its own military capacity and deceiving public opinion. We urge the United States to stop inventing false narratives, rectify the erroneous perception of China, and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral and military relations,” said the spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Zhang Xiaogang, in statements collected by Xinhua.

Beijing has stressed that the latest report by the US Department of Defense on China’s military development “has misinterpreted the country’s defense policies,” “speculating on the development of (its) military capacity” and “blatantly interfering in (its) internal affairs.”

Thus, Zhang has defended China’s adherence “to the path of peaceful development and a national defense policy of a defensive nature,” regretting that Washington is “taking advantage of its military force to impose regime changes and incite ‘color revolutions’ in other countries, causing extremely serious civilian casualties and material damage, and leading to severe humanitarian disasters.”

“The United States, addicted to war, has become the greatest destructive factor of the international order and the greatest threat to world security,” added the Chinese Defense spokesman, who has also urged the US government to “reduce the role of nuclear weapons in its national and collective security policy to respond responsibly to the international community.”

Despite recent disagreements between Beijing and Washington, the Chinese Ministry of Defense has expressed “the hope that the United States will adopt a more positive and rational attitude” in their bilateral relations and will encourage relations between the armies of both States “not to involve conflict or confrontation, but to advocate openness, pragmatism and cooperation, gradually accumulating mutual trust.”
