Mexico to build 25 border camps to accommodate Mexican immigrants deported from the US

Mexican Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodriguez announced on Saturday the construction of 25 reception camps in the border region with the United States to provide shelter for the possible wave of Mexican immigrants deported by the North American authorities.

The Mexican plan foresees 25 facilities with capacity for up to 2,500 people and is part of the initiative promoted by the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, to shelter the emigrants.

Rodriguez held a meeting this Saturday with governors of the northern Mexican border: the governor of Nuevo Leon, Samuel Garcia; Marina del Pilar Avila, from Baja California; Alfonso Durazo, from Sonora; Américo Villarreal, from Tamaulipas, and Manolo Jimenez, from Coahuila.

Rodriguez stressed that the meeting seeks to follow up on the coordinated work on immigration matters. “Together with my fellow border governors, we are prioritizing the humane treatment and well-being of migrants passing through our country,” the president said.
