The Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, has denounced this Wednesday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has knowledge of alleged criminal plans by the opposition leader Leopoldo López in the Latin American country, while he has pointed to other opponents, such as María Corina Machado, of financing groups to destabilize Venezuela.
“I know that in the United States the intelligence agencies handle how Leopoldo López, through (the former deputy) Gilbert Caro, a murderer imprisoned in a Miami jail, directed the Aragua Train from Spain, from the United States and towards Venezuela,” he declared, according to Globovision.
Maduro has indicated that there is evidence and recordings of these plans orchestrated by López, although he has emphasized that they were “defeated” by the security forces, who “fought the violent ones hired by the extreme right.” He also indicated that “they financed it with the so-called NGOs.”
In this sense, he recalled that the law on the supervision of NGOs is aimed at stopping these supposed social structures that he doubts are “non-profit” because he claims that “in reality” they receive “billions of dollars to finance the destabilization in Venezuela.”
