Trump names Senator Marco Rubio as his Secretary of State

The President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has officially nominated Senator Marco Rubio from Florida as his next Secretary of State, thus confirming the rumors of the last few days and moving forward with the selection of the most relevant members of his Administration.

Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants and a former political rival of Trump himself, has been chosen by the magnate as the representative of American diplomacy for this second stage in the White House, in which he will also enjoy control of Congress as a whole and also the Supreme Court.

“Marco is a highly respected leader and a very powerful voice in defense of freedom. He will be a firm defender of our nation, a true friend of our allies and a brave warrior who will never surrender to our adversaries,” Trump said in a statement released by his transition team.

The 53-year-old senator, the son of Cuban immigrants, was already a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and was even mentioned as a potential running mate for Trump in the recent elections, in which the tycoon beat his Democratic rival, the current vice president Kamala Harris.
