Elon Musk to lead US Department of Government Efficiency alongside Vivek Ramaswamy

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that the tycoon Elon Musk and the businessman Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE, for its acronym in English), within the framework of the appointments that the former president has made since he won the presidential elections.

“I am pleased to announce that the great Elon Musk, working together with the American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead DOGE. Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, eliminate excessive regulations, cut unnecessary expenses and restructure federal agencies,” he said in a statement.

Trump has echoed statements in which Musk, owner of the social network X and the aerospace company SpaceX, said that “this will send shock waves through the system and all those involved in government waste, which are many people.” In this sense, the president-elect has considered that these measures are “essential to the movement to save America.”

This department, which seeks to “drive” a “drastic change” that “Republican politicians have dreamed of” for “a long time,” will provide advice to the White House to promote a “large-scale” structural reform and create a business approach to the Government never seen before.”

“I hope that Elon and Vivek make changes in the federal bureaucracy with a view to efficiency and, at the same time, to improve the lives of all Americans,” said the tycoon, who stressed that they will work together “to free” the American economy and make the Government “accountable” to the people.

Finally, he pointed out that “their work will continue no later than July 4, 2026: a smaller, more efficient and less bureaucratic government,” which will be “the perfect gift for the United States on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.” “I’m sure they will succeed!” he concluded.

“Is it a threat to democracy? No, it’s a threat to bureaucracy,” Musk said through his profile on the social network X after the announcement that he will lead the new Department of Government Efficiency.
