US bombs nine pro-Iranian targets in Syria

The United States reported on Monday that it has attacked nine targets in two locations in Syria where there were pro-Iranian groups “in response to several attacks against American personnel.”

“Central Command forces have carried out attacks against nine targets in two locations linked to pro-Iranian groups in Syria,” explains a statement from the US military body.

These bombings are “in response to several attacks against American personnel in Syria in the last 24 hours” and “will reduce the ability of groups supported by Iran to plan and carry out attacks against US and Coalition forces in the future.”

“Our message is clear: attacks against the United States and coalition partners in the region will not be tolerated,” warned the general in charge of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Michael Erik Kurilla. “We will continue to take the necessary measures to protect our personnel and coalition partners and to respond to any reckless attack,” he added.

CENTCOM also stressed that this contingent is deployed in the area “to carry out operations against the Islamic State.”
