Trump selects Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, first woman in office

President Donald Trump, the virtual winner of the US presidential election, announced Thursday the first appointments of his administration and selected his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as White House chief of staff, making her the first woman to hold this position.

“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of my successful 2016 and 2020 election campaigns. Susie is strong, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected,” reads a statement.

Trump, who has said that Wiles “will continue to work tirelessly to ‘Make America Great Again’,” said, in reference to the slogan ‘Make America Great Again (MAGA), has maintained that “it is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first female chief of staff in the history of the United States” and has stated that he has “no doubt that she will make” the country “feel proud.”

Trump’s ‘number two’, J.D. Vance, has welcomed the decision, considering that “it is great news” because Wiles “has been a great asset” to the former president during the campaign and will also “be” in the White House. “In addition, she is a very good person. Go ahead!”, he reacted through his profile on the social network X.

Wiles is a respected Republican activist in the state of Florida, where she has also worked on Ron DeSantis’ campaign for governor, although she left his team amid increased tensions. The position of chief of staff is an influential one within the White House, as it will be tasked with managing the future president and his team, which sometimes has warring factions.

During Trump’s first term, there were four chiefs of staff. His first choice, Reince Priebus, lasted six months before being replaced by John Kelly, who has since become a staunch critic of the former US leader, reports the newspaper ‘The Hill’.
