Capitol Police arrest man who ‘smelled of fuel’ at visitor center

The US Capitol Police have reported that they have arrested a man who “smelled of fuel” and was carrying a flare gun at the visitor center on the day of the presidential election, which pits former President Donald Trump against the current Vice President of the country, Kamala Harris.

“The man smelled of fuel, had a flashlight and a flare gun,” they said in a brief statement, adding that the suspect was arrested during a security check upon entering the building, without giving further information on the matter.

The Capitol visitor center, accessible to the public and open from Monday to Saturday, is separate from the place where congressmen carry out their activities and has a cafeteria and a gift shop.

The American population is called to the polls to vote in a presidential election in which Trump seeks a second non-consecutive term after losing in 2020 to Biden, while Harris seeks to continue the legacy of the president, who was urged by those within the Democratic Party to renounce his candidacy.
