Harris vows to end war in Gaza and ensure self-determination for Palestinian people

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has vowed this Sunday from the state of Michigan that she will do “everything in her power” to “end” the war in the Gaza Strip and ensure the “self-determination” of the Palestinian people.

“I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza. To bring the hostages home, to end the suffering in Gaza, to ensure that Israel is safe and that the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination,” she declared in one of her last rallies before the presidential elections next Tuesday.

The vice president opened the campaign event, which took place in East Lansing in the state of Michigan, speaking about the conflict in the Middle East, an issue that has raised criticism among Arab and Muslim voters for the Biden Administration’s strong support for Israel in its offensive against the Gaza Strip.

Harris has appealed to this community “that has deep and proud roots here in Michigan”: “I want to say that this year has been difficult, because of the escalation of deaths and destruction in Gaza, and because of the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon. It is devastating,” she said, while promising that she will do “everything to keep the Arab-American community alive.”

The Democrat has also assured that she will continue “working on a diplomatic resolution” to protect civilians on both sides of the border between Israel and Lebanon and “provide lasting stability.”
