The US Intelligence community has accused Russia of orchestrating fake videos about alleged election fraud during early voting for the presidential elections on November 5.
The Directorate of National Intelligence (DNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have determined that “actors under the influence of Russia manufactured” a video that has been spread in recent days on social networks and in which alleged individuals of Haitian origin appear who were illegally voting in favor of the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, in several polling stations in Georgia.
The Secretary of State of Georgia, Ben Raffensperger, has refuted the claims of the video as false, and already advanced this week that the images had been manipulated and regretted that they seem to ride the wave of xenophobia unleashed against the Haitian population of the United States. Last month, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spread the rumour that members of this community were eating dogs and cats in the city of Springfield, Ohio.
For the American intelligence agencies, this Russian activity “is part of an effort by Moscow to sow unfounded doubts about the integrity of the American elections and to fuel divisions among the population.”
The agencies predict that these incidents will not end here and take it for granted that Russia “will continue to publish media content to undermine confidence in the integrity of the elections and confront Americans.”
