A San Francisco judge has sentenced David DePape, the man who in October 2022 raided the home of the then Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and attacked her husband Paul Pelosi, to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Thus, the Justice of the Californian city has found DePape guilty of the crime of aggravated kidnapping, and has also sentenced him to eight years in prison for other charges in the case at the state level, according to information collected by the American news network NBC.
DePape is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for the federal conviction handed down in mid-May. The Prosecutor’s Office had requested a 40-year prison sentence for a terrorism crime, although the accused was finally convicted of kidnapping on a federal charge and assault on a direct relative of an elected official.
DePape, a Canadian citizen of about 44 years old who was in the United States illegally at the time of the attack, attacked the Pelosi’s private home in San Francisco with the aim of attacking the then Speaker of the House of Representatives, the number three in the US Administration.
The attacker planned to “hold hostage” the Democratic leader, who was not at home at the time, but her husband Paul, about 84 years old, was. Paul Pelosi suffered a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands after DePape tied him up and hit him with a hammer.
Also, in the backpack of DePape – who spread different conspiracy theories, from aliens to electoral fraud in the 2020 elections – they found, among other objects, a roll of adhesive tape, a white rope, a hammer, a pair of rubber gloves, cloth and a newspaper.
