Donald Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden (New York) on Sunday, October 27. The event featured a performance by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage” and has led artists such as Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez to publicly support Kamala Harris.
Bad Bunny shared a video of Harris through Instagram stories in which the candidate says: “I will never forget what Donald Trump did and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and competent leader. He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after devastating consecutive hurricanes and offered nothing but paper towels and insults.”
Another celebrity who has shown her support for Harris is Jennifer Lopez. The singer, whose two parents are from Puerto Rico, posted a post of the candidate on Instagram stories in which she claims that she will “build economic opportunities for Puerto Rico.”
For his part, Ricky Martin, who is also Puerto Rican, posted a fragment of Hinchcliffe’s speech and wrote: “This is what they think of us. Vote for Kamala Harris.”
“Is this serious? This is disrespectful,” lamented Luis Fonsi in response to Hinchcliffe’s monologue. “It’s okay to have different points of view, but following this racist path is not okay. I’m very proud to be Puerto Rican, I’m very proud to be Latino. We don’t agree with this constant hatred. It’s pretty clear that these people don’t respect us, but still, they want our vote,” added the interpreter.
