Hurricane Milton has already left 23 dead in Florida awaiting President Biden’s visit

Hurricane Milton has already left 23 dead in its wake in the US state of Florida this week, according to the latest report provided this Sunday by state authorities.

The latest deaths are two individuals crushed by trees that were swaying after the storm, local authorities have reported to the American network CBS.

More than 1,000 rescue and rescue personnel are still working in the state this Sunday awaiting the arrival of US President Joe Biden to personally assess the consequences of a storm that has left estimated damages of up to $50 billion.

The hurricane made landfall on Wednesday night as a Category 3, with sustained winds of up to 193 kilometers per hour, although it has been losing intensity until it became a Category 1 hurricane as it moved towards the sea.

Milton is the fifth hurricane to make landfall in the US this year and the third to hit Florida. Helene became the second deadliest hurricane to hit the continental US in the past 50 years, after Hurricane Katrina, which killed 1,833 people in 2005.
