Hamas confirms death of its leader in Lebanon in an Israeli bombing of his home

The group claims that the attack also killed the wife and two of the children of Fatah Sharif, alias ‘Abu al Amin’

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has confirmed this Monday the death of its leader in Lebanon, Fatah Sharif, alias ‘Abu al Amin’, in a bombing carried out by the Israeli Army against Lebanese territory, an event in which several members of his family have also died.

“We regret the death of the leader of the movement in Lebanon and member of its leadership abroad, the martyr Fatah Sharif,” it said, before adding that the bombing was perpetrated against his home in the Al Bass camp, in southern Lebanon.

The group has detailed that along with Sharif, his wife, Umaya Ibrahim Abdulhamid, died; his son Amin Fatah Sharif and his daughter Uafa Fatah Sharif, as reported by the Palestinian daily ‘Filastin’, linked to Hamas.

“Brother ‘Abu Amin’ has died as a martyr in the sacred battle of the ‘Flood of Al Aqsa’, in the path of the leaders of our movement of our martyred people, after a career dedicated to the service of the Palestinian people, their legitimate struggle and their just cause,” he concluded.

The condolences were joined by Islamic Jihad, who denounced the “terrorist bombing” perpetrated by Israel against Sharif’s home. “This atrocious crime, carried out by enemy forces against a home and its residents, in the heart of a civilian area, is pure hatred that takes place in front of the whole world, which cannot lift a finger,” he said, before stressing that international inaction “encourages the enemy to continue its crimes.”

Lebanese authorities on Sunday reported the deaths of at least 105 people as a result of Israeli bombings during the day, amid an upsurge in Israeli attacks for nearly two weeks, which have left hundreds dead and thousands injured, as well as hundreds of thousands displaced.

The upsurge in hostilities is part of the clashes that have been going on for nearly a year, after Hezbollah attacked Israeli territory a day after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, which led Israel to unleash a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip.
