American actor and songwriter Kris Kristofferson, a country music legend, has died “peacefully” at the age of 88 at his home in Maui, Hawaii, according to his family, who have not detailed the cause of death.
Through his profile on the social network Instagram, he indicated that he died on Saturday and that they are “very blessed” for the time they spent with him. “Thank you for loving him for all these years, and when you see a rainbow, know that he is smiling at us all,” he said.
During his career, he wrote classics that were covered by artists such as Janis Joplin (‘Me And Bobby McGee’) or Johnny Cash (‘Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down’). A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Kris Kristofferson has been a boxer, an American football player, a soldier, a helicopter pilot, a Grammy Award winner and, above all, an icon.
A member of a generation of actors that includes Tom T. Hall, Mickey Newbury, Willie Nelson and John Prine, Kristofferson has also managed to carve out a career as an actor thanks to films such as ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’, ‘Convoy’, ‘A Star is Born’, the ‘Blade’ saga and Tim Burton’s version of ‘Planet of the Apes’.
