At least eleven gunmen have been killed by the Mexican Army during a clash in the municipality of Los Ramones, in the state of Nuevo Leon, in which members of the National Guard and the Mexican Civil Force have also had to intervene.
The Mexican authorities have indicated in a statement that the exchange of fire began shortly after a group of gunmen attacked a police station in the area. As they fled, shortly after, they resorted to throwing sharp objects in an attempt to puncture the tires of police vehicles and thus hinder the pursuit.
Later, the agents intercepted several vehicles heading to Nuevo Leon, where the passengers opened fire on the security forces, who managed to repel the attack with the help of four helicopters of the Civil Force. As a result, one person has been arrested and another eleven have died, according to the newspaper ‘La Jornada’.
In addition, Mexican forces have seized six vans, eleven long weapons, tactical equipment and several magazines, which have been made available to the Criminalistics and Forensic Services of the Attorney General’s Office of Nuevo León.
