Four people killed, dozens injured in shooting in Alabama, USA

At least four people have died and several dozen have been injured in a shooting late on Saturday in the American city of Birmingham, in the state of Alabama (southeast), without the causes of the event being clear for now.

The Birmingham Police have confirmed on their account on the social network X that “multiple people have been shot” and have announced that “it is possible that there are multiple deaths”, without further details on the matter.

Later, Truman Fitzgerald, of the local Police, has indicated that “multiple shooters” have opened fire against a group of people around 11:00 p.m. (local time) and has confirmed that there are at least four dead.

“There are dozens of gunshot wounds in the area,” he said, according to the American television channel CNN. “They tell me that at least four of them have life-threatening injuries,” he added.

He also stressed that the authorities have opened an investigation, but so far no one has been arrested. “We will do everything possible to clarify, identify and arrest those responsible for attacking our people,” he concluded.

The incident brings to 403 the number of mass shootings recorded so far this year in the United States, according to the count by the Gun Violence Archive, which defines one of these events as one in which there are at least four victims in a shooting, not including the person responsible for the attack.
