Delaware federal judge Maryellen Noreika on Thursday approved the request by the defense of Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, to postpone the reading of his sentence for illegal possession of firearms until December 4, just one month after the election.
The sentencing of the son of the US president was scheduled for November 13. His lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has argued, in the face of the refusal of the prosecutors, the need to extend the initial date due to the other legal disputes he has to face, US media reported.
Lowell has explained the difficulty of representing Biden in the two processes he has open due to the proximity of the dates, since on November 12, one day before the reading of the sentence for possession of weapons, he had to be in California at another hearing for tax evasion, among other reasons.
In June 2024, Hunter Biden was found guilty of three counts in a case involving the illegal purchase of a firearm in 2018 after acquiring it when he was a known drug user.
A couple of weeks ago, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine counts related to the failure to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019, as well as attempting to claim payments he made to prostitutes as business expenses. The sentencing is scheduled for December 16, twelve days after the recently rescheduled one.
