The Haitian transitional government announced on Wednesday three days of mourning for the explosion of a tanker truck carrying gasoline over the weekend in the commune of Miragoane, in the southwest of the country, which left more than 20 dead and 40 injured.
Authorities have indicated that the measure will be applied from Monday to Wednesday of next week (23, 24 and 25) and takes place “in memory of the deceased,” according to a statement from the office of Haitian Prime Minister Gary Conille, published on his Facebook profile.
The explosion took place last Saturday when several residents tried to recover fuel from the broken-down truck, which was beginning to spill gasoline on the road. In addition, about 15 motorcycles were completely charred, according to the Haitian news agency Alterpresse.
