Google Wallet will soon incorporate new functions that will allow users to create a digital version of their passport and save more types of public transport tickets.
Google’s digital wallet service now allows users to view and manage payment methods, tickets and saved tickets from the web, which is joined by the mobile application for Android.
This new feature will soon be joined by a series of new functions that will first be accessible to users in the United States, such as passport scanning, which is joined by the possibility of having the identity document in this format.
Passport scanning will be tested as a beta, and will allow American users to use the digital version of their passport saved in Wallet at a series of national airports, as reported by Google on its official blog.
Google hopes that users will be able, in the future, to use this digital version of their passport for services in which they have to authenticate their identity, such as recovering a bill or renting a car.
Wallet’s new features also make it easier to use public transport tickets. In the US, it’s possible to store some prepaid cards, and in Germany, public transport tickets. The latter option is coming soon to Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Wallet will also automatically store tickets from Gmail booking confirmations and offer real-time updates on train status.
