Trump echoes Haitian migrants “eating” pets in Ohio

ABC News journalists correct the tycoon live and quote Springfield city authorities: “There are no credible reports”

Former US President Donald Trump echoed this Tuesday the hoax spread on social media in which it is claimed that Haitian migrants are “eating” the pets of residents of the city of Springfield (Ohio), statements that have been corrected live by ABC News journalists during the debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Millions of people are coming to our country from prisons and jails, from mental institutions and asylums. (…) They are taking over the cities. They are taking over buildings. They are breaking in. (…). In Springfield, they are eating the dogs, the people who came in, they are eating the cats, they are eating the pets of the people who live there,” Trump said.

After that, ABC News journalists have cited the authorities of the city of Springfield, who have reported on the lack of “credible information” on the matter.

However, the tycoon has insisted that the country is suffering from a wave of “migrant crime”, and has blamed the criminality on the permissiveness at the border by the Administration of Joe Biden.

Harris, for her part, has highlighted that in the past she has “prosecuted transnational criminal organizations for trafficking in arms, drugs and human beings”, and has recalled the bill presented to Congress by the Democrats to reinforce the border with more border agents.

“It would have allowed us to stop the flow of fentanyl entering the United States. (…) But do you know what happened with that bill? Donald Trump picked up the phone, called some congressmen and told them to kill the bill,” Harris said.

During the debate between the two candidates, Trump has frequently used the immigration situation in the country both to defend his past management and his future political project and at the same time to attack his opponent.
