Republican Dick Cheney announces he will vote for Kamala Harris

Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney (2001-2009) has announced his intention to vote for the Democratic Party candidate for the November 5 presidential election, Kamala Harris.

“In the 248-year history of our nation, there has never been an individual who has posed a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney said in a statement released on Friday.

“He has attempted to subvert the last election with lies and violence to stay in power after being rejected by voters. He should never be trusted again by those in power,” he warned.

“As citizens, we have a duty to put country above factions to defend our Constitution. That is why my vote will be for Vice President Kamala Harris,” he argued.

Harris’ campaign has declared its “pride” in Cheney’s support through spokeswoman Jen O’Malley Dillon. “We deeply respect her courage in putting country before party,” he said.

Cheney served as vice president under George W. Bush, whose presidency was marked by the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon and the subsequent invasion of Iraq. Other former Republican heavyweights have also supported Harris, such as former Georgia governor Geoff Duncan.
