This is how you can transfer your playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music, and vice versa

Apple Music and YouTube Music have allowed you to transfer playlists between their services since this week, a possibility limited to the songs available and which requires having an active account in both.

Switching streaming services can mean losing playlists that have been created, sometimes spending a lot of time to fit them with specific times of the day, such as training, going to and from work to clean the house, or even with moods.

Apple and Google are looking to avoid this situation with the new export tool. It is an addition to the one currently available that allows you to transfer photos and videos between iTunes and Google Photos, only now it also makes a copy of the songs to take them to the other music service.

FROM APPLE MUSIC TO YOUTUBE MUSIC

To be able to transfer the playlist from Apple Music to YouTube, the first thing is to make sure that you have an active account in both services, since you need to log in to them.

If we start with Apple Music as the source, the first thing to do is go to the ‘Data and Privacy’ section and log in to the Apple ID account. Once done, you can select the ‘Transfer a copy of your data’ option and choose the Apple Music button.

In order for the transfer to be carried out, it is also necessary to log in to the YouTube Music account. The process guides the user in a very direct way. It can take a few minutes or several hours to complete, depending on the number of lists the user wants to move from one service to the other.

Once it is complete, the user receives an email confirming the complete transfer of the playlists.

FROM YOUTUBE MUSIC TO APPLE MUSIC

The opposite process is also possible, that is, users can transfer the lists they have created on YouTube Music to Apple Music. This case also requires an active subscription to both services.

In this case, the user has to go to Google Takeout, the Google service that facilitates the export of data from its services, and go down the list until finding the YouTube Music option.

Make sure that only this option has been selected, because Takeout may mark all the services by default. Once checked, the next step is to choose the destination service (Apple Music) and log in with the Apple ID account.

To allow the transfer, it is necessary to accept the permission that Google requests to share data with Apple Music. Once done, the process will begin, which, again, can take a few minutes or several hours. When completed, a notification will also be received in the email

COPYING PLAYLISTS

The playlists created by the user will appear in the destination service. However, this process depends on the songs included in them being available in both services so that they can be replicated.

This means that if Apple Music or YouTube Music does not have any songs from the lists that have been transferred, they will not be displayed. It may also happen that the playlists have more songs than allowed in the destination, and therefore some are missing, in order to comply with the limit.

Transferring the playlists does not mean that they are deleted in the source service. But if the user updates the playlist in Apple Music, for example, this change will not be reflected in the same playlist in YouTube Music, because there is no type of synchronization between the two.
