The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has considered this Thursday that the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuela that has endorsed his electoral victory is “historic and forceful” in the face of suspicions of fraud raised by the opposition and by the majority of the international community.
“After doing a technical, scientific, professional and legal work, based on the laws as a Judicial Power, it has issued a historic and forceful ruling. And we say from the streets of La Guaira and Venezuela: Holy Word! Let there be peace! Absolute respect!”, he declared before his supporters.
Maduro has asked the public powers to respect the right to peace and national sovereignty, and has asked to “continue to travel the path of peace, of work, of national unity, of dialogue, of present and future consensus” through justice.
The Venezuelan Supreme Court has considered valid the results of the presidential elections released by the National Electoral Council (CNE) and which declared the current president the winner. However, the former opposition candidate, Edmundo González, has stated that the TSJ “long ago ceased to be an impartial court at the service of Justice to become the executive arm” of Maduro.
For this reason, he has urged the members of the National Electoral Council (CNE) “not to hide behind a court” and to “assume their role and respect the results.” In this sense, he has asked them to show the minutes table by table and “make way for an international, impartial, independent and reliable audit.” “That is the only thing they should do,” he concluded.
