The former president participates in his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt
Former US President Donald Trump has accused former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, of launching “personal” attacks during their respective speeches at the Democratic National Convention and has suggested that he does not have to be the one to limit himself to talking about political issues.
The rise of Vice President Kamala Harris in the polls has led part of the Republican sector to ask Trump to reorient his campaign strategy to leave aside the disqualifications and talk about strictly political issues that can mobilize the electorate.
Trump has responded to these internal criticisms in a veiled way during an event in North Carolina, where he has referred to the Obamas’ speeches. “They tell me: sir, please stick to politics, don’t get into personal issues, but “they are the ones who are going personal all night long,” he added.
Trump has even asked his followers to speak out on whether he should continue to allude to personal issues and, to popular acclaim, he added: “My advisors are fired.”
This Wednesday was the first open-air rally of the New York magnate since he survived an assassination attempt on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump was hit by a bullet in the ear, although the shooting resulted in one death.
The Republican candidate, accustomed to mass gatherings since he launched himself into the front line of American politics, spoke on this occasion protected by bulletproof glass, the result of a security reinforcement adopted after the attack.
