Meta will allow blocking messages sent by unknown accounts on WhatsApp, a protection measure against spam and scams that it is currently working on and that will reach users in an upcoming update of the service.
To improve user protection, the technology firm has introduced different privacy tools, such as blocking contacts or temporary chats. Advanced options allow deactivating the preview of links shared in conversations and protecting the IP address in calls.
Now, Meta is advancing in another advanced privacy tool, which if activated, will block messages sent by unknown accounts, as shared by the specialized portal WABetainfo, although the description of the function clarifies that it will act “if they exceed a certain volume.”
In addition to improving user protection, this novelty is designed to improve the performance of the application itself by reducing the presence of spam, scams and other unwanted messages.
This is a feature currently in testing, which has been seen in the beta for Android (v2.24.17.24), and which will reach users in an upcoming update of the messaging application.
