Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate for the US presidential election, announced on Wednesday that he is willing to participate in an October 1 vice presidential debate on the US television network CBS against Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance.
“See you on October 1, JD,” Walz said on his profile on the social network X after CBS offered the candidates several dates: September 17, September 24, October 1 and October 8 as options for a debate in New York City. The elections will be held on November 5.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign has not yet expressed its willingness to accept any of the offers, leaving the participation of his ‘number two’ in doubt. A campaign official has said that Walz “looks forward to debating J.D. Vance if he runs,” the network reported.
Trump last week challenged Harris, the presumptive Democratic candidate, to hold three televised debates in September instead of one: on the 4th, 10th and 25th, dates that he said he was “looking forward to” and about which he acknowledged that all the details have yet to be finalized. ABC has already confirmed that it will organize one of these face-to-face debates on September 10, since both Republicans and Democrats have agreed.
