Harris formally presents her presidential candidacy before the US Federal Election Commission

Most of the 57 Democratic state parties show their support for the vice president

The electoral campaign committee of the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the vice president, Kamala Harris, has formally modified the documents in the Federal Electoral Commission this Sunday to consolidate Biden’s withdrawal from the race for the White House in favor of Harris, who still must gather the necessary support to win the nomination at the Democratic National Convention to be held next August.

“Vice President Harris is now a candidate for the Presidency of the United States in the 2024 elections, and from now on she will carry out campaign activities only in pursuit of that position,” the document reads, according to the American television network CNN.

It should be noted that the Biden-Harris campaign funds, which have 95.9 million dollars (about 88 million euros), can only continue to be used by the Democrats if Harris wins the party’s nomination due to the rules of the Electoral Commission, which does allow Harris to use them because she shared a campaign committee with the president.

Despite the fact that important Democratic figures have not yet shown their support for Harris, such as the leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, the former Democratic speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi or former President Barack Obama, a large majority of party members have done so.

HARRIS BEGINS TO COLLECT SUPPORT
In fact, the Association of State Democratic Committees has announced on its X social network account that most of the 57 state parties have shown their support for Harris.

“I am proud that state party chairs, vice presidents and CEOs across the country are overwhelmingly uniting behind Vice President Kamala Harris. These state party leaders are on the front lines of winning elections at every level and “They know that the stakes in this election could not be higher,” said the president of the Association of State Democratic Committees, Ken Martin, in a statement.

In that sense, he has highlighted that American democracy is “on the ballot” and that there is no one “more qualified” than Harris to “win the case against Donald Trump.”

“Vice President Harris has been a cornerstone of this Administration’s extraordinary successes and is the most qualified candidate to continue that legacy and serve as President, as a Black woman and South Asian American, she represents the diversity of our Democratic coalition and her future,” he added.

The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has assured that “there is no one better” than Harris to defeat the “dark vision” of former President Donald Trump, whom he accuses of putting “democracy and the future at stake”, according to a published message in your X account.

In addition, numerous members and former members of the Democratic National Committee have submitted a letter calling for a vote for Harris and in which they also praise Biden for “everything she has done and continues to do for the country and the world.”

“We believe that our strongest candidate for the Presidency, the one who can best offer a clear and unifying vision for the future of the United States, is Vice President Kamala Harris,” the letter reads.

In addition, the Democratic Convention delegation from the state of Tennessee has voted unanimously in favor of supporting the current vice president.

After all these shows of support, CNN has calculated that Harris already has about 500 delegates of the 1,976 votes necessary to achieve the nomination (or 2,350 if the superdelegates are allowed to vote first) of the 4,700 total. The American network estimates that this number will continue to grow over time, although delegates will be able to vote for the candidate they prefer after Biden leaves.

After Biden’s departure from the presidential race, the White House informed CNN that this decision has nothing to do with the president’s state of health, all a few days after he assured that he would reconsider his candidacy if his medical team That’s how I recommended it.

In fact, in recent days he has not had any new medical tests beyond those necessary to treat COVID-19, whose symptoms have already begun to subside, according to a document published by his doctor, Kevin O’Connor.
