Elon Musk moves the headquarters of two of his companies from California to Texas due to the new gender identity law

Mogul Elon Musk announced this Tuesday that he will move the headquarters of two of his companies from California to Texas in protest of the state’s new gender identity law that prohibits school districts from requiring teachers to notify teachers when a minor identifies as transgender.

“This is the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” he said when reporting that the headquarters of the rocket company SpaceX will change to Starbase and that of the social network X to Austin, “due to this law and many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies.

Musk has claimed that California Governor Gavin Newson has signed a bill that causes “large-scale destruction of parental rights and puts children at risk of permanent harm.” “I made it clear to Newson about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and businesses to leave California to protect their children,” he added.

The billionaire, who last week endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, has relocated most of the businesses he runs to Texas, a Republican stronghold. Also in 2021 he changed his residence to this state, where there is no state personal income tax. In contrast, California has historically been Democratic.

California this week became the first state in the United States to ban school rules that require school staff to reveal a student’s gender identity or sexual orientation to anyone else without the minor’s consent in order to to protect LGBT students who live with families that are not tolerant.
