Former firefighter Corey Comperatore, 50, has been identified as the bystander who died during Saturday’s attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania.
The identification was announced by the state governor, Josh Shapiro, at a press conference.
Shapiro has indicated that Comperatore, a Trump supporter, was shot while protecting his family from the initial volley fired by the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was later shot dead by the Secret Service.
Two other people have been injured by the shots fired by Crooks and are currently hospitalized in critical condition, as the governor has also confirmed.
