Ovidio Guzmán, son of Chapo, extradited to the US to be tried for drug trafficking

Ovidio Guzmán López ‘El Ratón’, son of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was extradited this Friday from the prison where he was in Mexico to the United States, a country that seeks to try him for trafficking in fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana.

Official sources from the federal government have confirmed to the newspaper ‘Proceso’ that, from approximately 1:00 p.m. (local time), Interpol agents have gone to the Altiplano federal prison to comply with the order to extradite him.

Currently, Ovidio Guzmán is already in the city of Chicago, although he also faces charges in New York and Washington DC.

In total, the United States Government has eleven criminal charges against him related to drug trafficking and control of a criminal enterprise, since the authorities identify him as the heir of the Sinaloa Cartel, an organization founded by his father.

Ovidio Guzmán was arrested on January 5 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, being the second time that federal forces detained him. The first was in October 2019, but he was released hours later by order of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to avoid an escalation of violence, as the cartel attempted to rescue him.

In its investigations, the US Government has indicated that Ovidio Guzmán coordinated the shipment of fentanyl, marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine to this country for the Sinaloa Cartel, and that he and his three brothers were involved in the escape of their father from the federal prison. of the Altiplano in 2015.
