The US authorities have reported this Wednesday that more than a thousand migrants have tried to cross the border between Mexico and the United States.
The head of the border patrol in the El Paso sector, Anthony Good, has indicated that these migrants, the majority from Venezuela, have turned themselves in to agents “after entering illegally” in the United States.
Good recalled that they can be expelled from US territory under Title 42, a health policy that allowed migrants to be denied the opportunity of asylum in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For his part, the head of the United States Customs and Border Protection Office, Raul Ortiz, has remarked that “the borders are not open and people should not make the dangerous journey.”
“People should not trust smugglers or others who claim the borders are open,” he said, before adding that “migrants who enter illegally are subject to expulsion and repatriation.”
