Biden appoints Lael Brainard his main economic adviser

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has appointed this Tuesday Lael Brainard, current vice president of the Federal Reserve, as the new director of the National Economic Council, replacing Brian Deese, who submitted his resignation in early February.

“Lael, one of the country’s leading macroeconomists, brings an extraordinary depth of national and international economic experience,” the US president said in a statement issued by the White House.

Brainard, who will succeed Deese, served as deputy secretary of the US Treasury Department from 2010 to 2013. In addition, she was also counselor to the Treasury Secretary in 2009, among her most notable positions.

Biden has also appointed, within his new and revamped economic team, Jared Bernstein, as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, and Bharat Ramamurti, as Deputy Director of the National Economic Council and Advisor for Strategic Economic Communications, among other appointments.
