World’s oldest living person dies at 118

The French nun Lucile Randon, known as Sister André and recognized as the oldest person in the world, has died at the age of 118 in the city of Toulon, in the south of France.

The mayor of the city, Hubert Falco, confirmed her death on Tuesday, recalling that she would have turned another year old in less than a month, on February 11.

“It is with immense sadness and enormous emotions that I have just learned of the death of Sister André,” Falco said through a post dedicated to the nun on her Facebook social network profile.

“She was the dean of humanity and thanks to her remarkable age she conquered the hearts of all French people. But beyond the symbol she represented for having crossed the century and experienced two world wars, Sister Andre was above all a profoundly good woman. and affectionate”, has sentenced.

Andre, who was born in the south of France in 1904, was included in April 2022 on the list of oldest living people and, according to Guinness World Records, is the second oldest French and European person ever recorded, according to the dpa agency.

With her death, María Branyas Morera, who lives in Spain, assumes the title of the oldest person in the world at 115 years of age.
