Spanish pianist Mario Prisuelos will offer a concert in Bogotá

The Spanish pianist Mario Prisuelos and the Q-Arte Quartet will perform this June 16 at the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo with ‘Ricercata: great masters of the 20th century’, with works by Dmitri Shostakovich, György Ligeti and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

The concert will be dedicated to three composers who with their music confronted different political regimes in 20th-century Europe.

In the 20th century, in an interval of 25 years, Dmitri Shostakovich, Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Ligeti created three great piano works.

The three musicians experienced the totalitarianism that devastated Europe in the 1930s and 1940s, such as Stalinism and Nazism.

Thus, through the piano, the Spanish Mario Prisuelos brings to the present three works marked by late neoclassicism: ’24 preludes’ by Shostakovich, ‘Klavierstücke IX’ by Stockhausen and ‘Música ricercata’ by Ligeti.

Throughout his career, Prisuelos has had a firm commitment to the music of his time. He has made premieres, recordings and performances of works dedicated to him by composers such as Tomás Marco, Jesús Rueda, Jesús Torres, David del Puerto, José María Sánchez Verdú and Mercedes Zavala, among others.

Additionally, Prisuelos is frequently required to teach master classes in different educational centers and universities in Europe and America, and his hometown, Villaviciosa de Odón, granted him the title of ‘Favorite Son’ in 2016.

Afterwards, the Colombian group Cuarteto Q-Arte will give a concert entitled ‘Dos mundos’, where the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn will meet the music of various Latin American composers.
