The US registers its highest number of COVID-19 infections since January

The United States this Tuesday registered its highest number of COVID-19 infections since January, an average of 254,496 daily in the last seven days, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

This figure has surpassed the previous record of 251,989 new infections of January 11, 2021, according to the CNN television network, which has highlighted that hospitalizations and deaths have not experienced a similar increase, but that these indicators lag behind and they can be weeks late.

However, pediatric COVID-19 hospitalizations in the United States are approaching the record set in September. On average, about 305 children a day were admitted to the hospital with the disease last week, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The United States is the country in the world hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 53.2 million infected since the pandemic began and more than 821,000 deaths. So far, more than 60 percent of the US population has the full vaccination schedule.
