Coinciding with the announcement of the Golden Globes nominations, the Critics Choice Awards have also made public the nominations for its 27th edition, which is scheduled to hold its gala on the same day as the HFPA awards, on January 9, 2022 Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Belfast’ and Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ are the favorites, with eleven nominations each.
Considered one of the most personal projects of Kenneth Branagh, who was born in the capital of Northern Ireland, ‘Belfast’ is up for the awards for best film, best direction, best original screenplay, best new performance, best cast, best actress of Cast, two for Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Editing.
With the same number of nominations, ‘West Side Story’, the remake of the iconic 1961 musical with which Spielberg made her debut in the musical genre, aspires to become the other favorite. The film is up for the award for the best film, the best director, the best adapted screenplay, two for the best supporting actress, the best revelation performance, the best cast, the best costume design, the best production design, for the best montage and the best photography.
A very close competition, as ‘Dune’ and ‘The power of the dog’ aspire to 10 prizes, followed by ‘Licorice Pizza’ and ‘The alley of lost souls’, which compete for eight awards. In fourth position, are ‘The Williams method’ and ‘Don’t look up’, which have achieved six nominations.
