MUSIC, HISTORY, ART AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS ARE GREAT REASONS TO VISIT ST. AUGUSTINE, PONTE VEDRA & THE BEACHES IN SEPTEMBER

St. Augustine, Fla.- Florida’s Historic Coast is a great place to visit any time of year, but in late summer things start getting a little cooler with celebrations of art music and history, including the celebration of the founding of America’s First Parish in the nation’s oldest city, are great reasons to visit in September.

The month starts off with First Friday Art Walk (September 3) when dozens of galleries in historic St. Augustine remain open in the evening to showcase the latest exhibits. During Art Walk, the Cathedral Basilica will host a musical recital featuring the Lopez/Tabor Duo. Alfonso Lopez, violin, and Michelle Tabor, piano, will set the tone for this most musical month.

On September 4 (Labor Day Weekend) the annual commemoration honoring the founding of America’s First Parish, the Cathedral of St. Augustine, and the City of St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city, will take place at the Mission Nombre de Dios. It begins at 10 a.m. with a historical reenactment of the Spanish landing featuring the Historic Florida Militia’s Men of Menendez and the St. Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation Chalupa followed by a Holy Mass at the rustic altar on the mission grounds. The event will continue with a Grand Procession at noon to the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park where guests can witness the first Thanksgiving meal and visit the an authentic 16th century encampment.

The 5th Annual Sing Out Loud Festival kicks off September 10th with free musical performances at the Colonial Oak Music Park, Dog Rose Brewing Co., Shanghai Nobby’s Lightner Museum and Planet Sarbez. The festival continues every weekend through September 26. Whether it’s R&B, bluegrass, hip-hop or indie rock, there’s something for everybody. The festival is highlighted by headline performers at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and culminates throughout the month with free performances at popular venues and outdoor locations throughout St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra.  Headline performers include The Disco Biscuits on September 17, Parquet Courts on September 18 and TLC Celebration of CRAZY, SEXY COOL and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony on September 25.

Throughout September there are myriad ways to get out and explore and celebrate the outdoors. Whether on a tour of one of the many natural areas, or with one of the many water tours led by wildlife experts, September is a great time to get out and enjoy nature. And on September 25, the GTM Research Reserve will host Estuary Fest 2021, where participants get to experience family friendly activities that educate and celebrate the area’s precious natural resources.
