Putin has formally accepted Biden’s invitation to hold the meeting, the Russian daily ‘Kommersant’ reported on Tuesday. The invitation would have been accepted through a series of representatives in the framework of the high-level diplomatic talks that are taking place in Geneva.

In them, the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, has met with the adviser of National Security of the United States, Jake Sullivan, precisely to discuss the summit, among other issues.

The meeting between the parties marks the second high-level meeting between Russia and the United States and took place after the meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on May 20 in Iceland.

The White House has highlighted that the talks have been “constructive despite the differences” and has indicated that a “normalization of relations (…) will be in favor of stabilization at the global level.”
