A US grand jury indicts four former Minneapolis police officers in the death of George Floyd

A United States grand jury indicted four former Minneapolis police officers on Friday in connection with the death of African-American George Floyd, who died of suffocation during a police arrest at the hands of Derek Chauvin, a policeman who was found guilty. of all charges.

In a judicial document to which the CNN television network has had access, the jury has indicated that the agents had violated Floyd’s constitutional rights. Thus, officers Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng have been charged for not intervening when Chauvin used “unjustified force”.

The three of them, along with a fourth agent, Thomas Lane, now face charges of failing to provide Floyd with necessary medical assistance. “The defendants saw George Floyd lying on the ground in need of assistance and did not give it, so they deliberately acted with indifference when there was a clear risk of endangering him,” the text states.

Chauvin has also been accused of using excessive force in an incident that took place in September 2017 with a minor under 14, as confirmed by the Department of Justice.

The documents indicate that Chauvin would have “held the adolescent by the throat and hit him on the head with a flashlight.” In addition, he has been accused of placing his knee on the neck when it was on the ground.

These charges are not part of the boss’s investigation into the practices of the Minneapolis Police.
