The US has the lowest coronavirus infection rate since October 2020

The United States has detected some 84,000 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, while in the last week it has registered the lowest incidence figure since last October, although the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, for its acronym in English) has warned that “do not let your guard down.”

The country, which continues to be the nation in the world hardest hit by the pandemic and accumulates 27,638,751 infections, has reported some 84,000 new cases in the last day, a decrease compared to the average of more than 97,000 daily infections that it has been registering in the previous seven days.

Also, in the last week – through Friday – it has fallen from more than 13 percent incidence at the beginning of this year to less than 6 percent, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University, in addition to recording the rate lowest infection rate since October 2020.

However, the number of fatalities from the disease in the last 24 hours has increased slightly, since another 3,433 deaths have been added to the total balance, while the average of the last week of deaths has been just over 3,000 deaths .

Despite the declining figures that the United States has been registering, the director of the CDC, Rochelle Walensky, has warned that “we must not lower our guard against the rapid decline in coronavirus cases”, and recalled that a “Potentially deadlier” variant of the coronavirus is sweeping the country.

Walensky has also referred to the reopening of schools and the return to classrooms, to ensure that “we have work to do”, and that until the community transmission decreases, the measures will not be able to relax, reports the television channel CNN .

The schools of the United States are in the heat of debate on how it will be the reopening of the classes, studying a combination of face-to-face and virtual classes.

The CDC has reported that more than 50 million vaccines have been administered, of which 37.1 people have received the first dose and approximately 13 million have already received the second and, therefore, would be immunized.
