Trump’s popularity plummets after storming the Capitol

The popularity of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has declined as a result of the assault on the headquarters of Congress and there are already less than half the Republicans who would be willing to vote for him if he tried to return to the White House in the 2024 elections.

In November, 53 percent of Republican or independent voters who tend to lean toward this party welcomed a new electoral candidacy for Trump, who was defeated in November against the Democratic candidate for the White House, Joe Biden. After the assault on the Capitol, the level of support for that candidacy has fallen to 40 percent, according to a poll prepared by the firm Morning Consult for Politico and prepared from almost 2,000 interviews.

Trump has not ruled out trying to return to the White House in 2024, a possibility that is in the air if the impeachment that Democrats have initiated against him in Congress and that could disqualify him from returning to office succeeds. 55 percent of the people interviewed in the poll believe that Trump should resign now, while 54 percent support that the Senate approve this time the ‘impeachment’, which is still in its first stage in the House of Representatives.

The assault on the Capitol, for which Trump has avoided taking responsibility, has generally caused a collapse in the president’s popularity, which is already around 34 percent – its lowest level to date. More than six out of ten voters disapprove of his management.
