The pandemic is close to 54 million cases worldwide

The new coronavirus pandemic is about to reach 54 million infections and has exceeded 1.3 million deaths worldwide after registering about 560,000 positives in 24 hours, according to the balance updated to this Sunday by Johns Hopkins University .

Specifically, around the world, 561,758 new positives have been registered in the last day for a total of 53,929,712 cases, while the global death toll stands at 1,311,273. More than 34.7 million people have managed to overcome the disease worldwide.

The United States has registered in recent days the worst case data of the entire pandemic, with 160,000 infections in 24 hours, accounting for 10.9 million in general terms. The fatalities from COVID-19 on US soil amount to 245,600.

India, on the other hand, has managed to reduce the rate of infections in recent weeks, although it already exceeds 8.8 million cases and accumulates 129,635 deaths. The Asian country is the one that has registered the most recoveries to date, more than 8.2 million people.

Brazil remains in third position in this classification, which is configured based on data from 191 countries and territories with coronavirus cases. The South American giant has registered more than 5.8 million cases and 165,658 deaths.

France, for its part, has become in recent days the epicenter of the second wave in Europe and already includes in its balance more than 1.91 million positives and 42,600 fatalities, ahead of Russia, which accumulates more than 1.88 million cases of COVID-19, and 32,536 deaths.

Spain is next, with more than 1.45 million cases and 40,769 fatalities, followed by the United Kingdom, which, with 1.3 million cases and 51,858 deaths, has surpassed Argentina in the last hours, in turn the second country with the most cases in Latin America, with 1.3 million infected, and accumulates 35,307 deaths from the disease.

Colombia is also over one million positives, with 1.19 million infections and 33,829 deaths; and Italy, with 1.1 million cases and 44,683 deaths. The last country to join the group was Mexico, this morning, with 1,003,253 cases and 98,259 deaths.

Peru, next on the list, has 934,899 infected and 35,177 deaths. Another advance registered in the last hours is that of Germany, with 799,733 cases and 12,511 deaths. Iran, with 749,525 cases and 41,034 deaths, has overtaken South Africa in recent hours. This country continues to be the most affected by the pandemic in Africa, with 749,182 cases and 20,206 deaths.

Poland, which has chained several infection records, already exceeds 691,118 cases of COVID-19 with 9,499 deaths, while Ukraine – 540,593 infections and 9,806 deaths -, Belgium –531,280, 14,303 deaths -, Chile –529,676 positives and 14,777 deaths – and Iraq –516,915 cases and 11,623 fatalities – also figure above the half million threshold.

With more than 400,000 positives are Indonesia, with 463,007 positives and 15,148 fatalities; Czech Republic, with 458,229 cases and 6,058 deaths; The Netherlands, with 449,501 infections and 8,516 deaths; Bangladesh, with 430,496 cases and 6,173 deaths; Turkey, with 411,055 cases and 11,418 deaths; and the Philippines, with 406,337 positives and 7,791 deaths.

Already in the range of 300,000 infections are Pakistan (356,904), Romania (353,185), Saudi Arabia (352,950) and Israel (323,460), while in the range of 200,000 to 300,000 infections are Canada (295,131), Morocco ( 288,211), Switzerland (257,135), Portugal (211,266) and Nepal (208,299).

Above the 100,000 positives are Austria (198,291), Ecuador (179,627); Sweden (177,355), United Arab Emirates (149,135), Panama (145,309), Bolivia (143,181); Jordan (141,305), Hungary (136,723), Kuwait (136,341), Qatar (135,570); Dominican Republic (133,225); Costa Rica (123,223); Kazakhstan (120,463), Oman (119,442); Japan (117,113); Armenia (115,855); Guatemala (114,719); Belarus (112,870); Egypt (110,547); Lebanon (104,267), Honduras (102,555), and Ethiopia (102,321).

China, the country where the pandemic originated, counts 91,828 infected and 4,742 fatalities.
