“This is Tokyo’s first ‘medal’,” said Alejandro Blanco, who announced the creation of a green quality ‘seal’ for events
The Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) received this Thursday the certification as the first sports body in the world aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and announced the presentation before the end of the year of a green ‘seal’ for the sports events and competitions.
This was advanced by the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, in a telematic presentation at the headquarters of said organization together with the presidents of Planet Fair Play, Alberto ‘Beto’ AgustÃ, and of Bureau Veritas, Bertrand MartÃn, who gave him the certification of Entity Sustainable Sports aligned with the 17 indicators of the SDGs.
“This certificate recognizes the effort and work of the entire team and places us at the forefront of the race for climate change. This race has just begun, but this commitment is forever. We have many stages left, but we have confidence of being able to obtain it “, indicated Blanco.
In this sense, Blanco affirmed that the body he presides must consider “challenges”, and therefore announced that the COE is going to launch a ‘stamp’ of Sustainable Event. “We must work so that sport is an example of sustainability. There are many people who are aware of this seal of quality and I hope that before the end of the year we can present it,” he said.
The COE’s top leader was proud that the body has long been committed to sustainability, and became the first national Olympic committee to sign an agreement with the UN for climate action and to eliminate plastic bottles from single use, among other measures.
“We do not want to do this race alone. The best mark is the one that is not left. I do not know if this certificate is the first medal in Tokyo, yes, you can mark it as the first,” said Blanco, alluding to the relevance and significance worldwide certification received by Bureau Veritas.
