Trump Authorizes Slashing Funds for States Whose Rulers Allow “Anarchy” on the Streets

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has ordered his Administration to review and restrict if necessary the budget allocations destined for those states in whose cities, he has said, “anarchy, violence and destruction” are not fought. in the framework of the protests against racial violence that in recent weeks has shaken much of the country.

Through a statement issued by the White House, the President of the United States has emphasized that “he will not allow federal tax dollars to finance cities that are allowed to deteriorate into lawless areas.”

Trump has pointed directly to cities such as New York, Portland, Seattle, or Washington DC, and their leaders, whom he has accused of contributing “to violence and destruction” by not enforcing the law, as well as of disempowering the Police, in addition to “refusing to accept offers of federal assistance.”

Following the death of George Floyd, suffocated under the knee of a Minneapolis Police officer and other African-American citizens who are victims of racial and police violence, protests and demonstrations have taken place in almost every city in the United States, ending some of them in riots and looting.

“To ensure that federal funds are not wasted improperly, or spent in a way that violates our promise to protect life, liberty, and property, it is imperative that the Federal Government review the use of funds in those jurisdictions that allow the anarchy, violence, and destruction, “he said.

Trump added that in the next two weeks the Office of the Prosecutor and the Department of Security will publish a list on the Department of Justice website the state and local jurisdictions that “have allowed violence and destruction of property to persist.”
